SWAD has been working in the fields of Livelihood, Health, education and peace building in the eight districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangri, Koraput, Kalahandi, Nuapada, and Nawarangpur for the past 25 years. The people here live in hill slopes and tops where natural resources are limited some time it is not suitable for cultivation. Though People have land but they are not able to focus on livelihood practice. Most of the Government supported resources do not reach to the bordering area and often they are given less priority by Government authorities. Poverty and illiteracy have a direct bearing upon the development of the people in the area. Seasonal migration to metropolitan cities in search for better livelihood also has its negative impact in the society and that has brought about a lot social and political unrest in the area. Taking into account all thse factors SWAD in this year (2017-18) focus on livelihood, migration, health and peace.
SWAD management is indebted to Misereor Germany, Mensen et Messe Netherlands, Catholic Relief Service (CRS) and Caritas India for their generous support. The Committed Staff is the strength of SWAD and the Management acknowledges their contribution to society through various activities.
Inauguration of Shalom, the Social Service Centre of Berhampur diocese and the second field office of SWAD, at Ankuli, Berhampur is written in silver lines in the history of SWAD in this silver jubilee year.
