Gajapati district is a partially tribal district in the state of Odisha. The village Adapanka is coming under the Solaguda watershed. The village is under the Birikote Gram Panchayat of Mohana Block and situated near to Haravangi dam side. This village is 2 KM away from the GP office, 20 km away from Block & Tahasil office and 134 km away from the district headquarter. Adapanka consists of 52 households. All people belong to the Adivasi (Kandha Adivasi) community. All the households are depending on shifting cultivation and daily wage for their livelihood.
The women people were formed a Group named “Gruhuni Atma Sahayak Self- Help Group” with 11 members by the leadership of Moti Mallik and Jhunu Mallik in the year of 2004. They are coordinated to all women people to form a group for their sustainable livelihood. These two women were inspired from the Anganwardi Worker of their village. The Government also instructed to form the Women Self Help Group and there was an instruction by the Govt. every woman should be in the group. According to that they formed the group, but it did not function properly. After intervention of the SWAD organization, conducted meetings and training for income generation activities for SHGs. The organization tried to mobilise the Govt. resources in a systematic way for the sustainable livelihood of the people with available schemes.
With the help of SWAD women started their visioning and looking forward. They linkages with the bank, and participated in several trainings and meetings. Also, exposure to different districts and different activities through so many organizations. After all they came into contact and built up their leadership quality to boost their economic condition in their day-to-day life. With the support of NABARD (WDF) SWAD trained some active SHG groups to make bricks. It is also a kind of income generation activity in which the women can get more benefit on the source. After getting training and demo class this GRUHUNI SHG started to make bricks near their village.
The SWAD and NABARD has support for water service pipe, motor pumps for making the bricks. Now they have completed 30000 bricks within a month. and they have invested Rs. 25000/ for the bricks. They are expecting to get Rs. 125000/- by selling the bricks. So, they are feeling happy and willing to continue these activities for the betterment of the future. They are acknowledging their gratitude to all staff of SWAD for the support of martials and morals.
