In order to promote stress tolerant paddy cultivation (Sahabhagi dhan) SWAD in collaboration with International Rise Research Institute (IRRI) initiated a project for the first time in Rayagada district. This project identified 182 farmers and demonstrated in 66 hectors of upland in the Baising and Karubai Gram Panchayats of Rayagada block. From IRRI SWAD received 4980 Kgs of paddy seeds and distributed to the farmers and accompanied them in cultivating them with improved agricultural practices such as summer ploughing,  seed treatment, raised bed nursery, line transplantation, weed management, integrated nutrient management and integrated pest management. At an average of 24 quintals from an acre was the all time record in the area, from the new technology where as the previous average was 14 – 16 quintals per acre.
