SWAD with the support of CRS – BMGF and CRS – USAID/OFDA reached out to Cyclone Phailine affected families of 66 Villages in Beguniapada, Rangeilunda and Chikiti Blocks of Ganjam District to recover their partially/fully damaged habitable houses. After a detailed survey and assessment 2449 beneficiaries were registered for shelter repair. In addition, SWAD has supported 366 beneficiaries, who lost their houses completely, with construction materials to rebuild their shelters. Each beneficiary was provided a transitional shelter amounting of Rs. 22300/- to live in habitable condition with 192 sq ft space as sphere standard. As a result of our intervention 2815 families were able to restore their shelters and restored their ray of hope. Besides the shelter support, to increase access to food and livelihood SWAD-CRS promoted kitchen garden and trained the communities to access government scheme and programs related to disaster response, like MGNREGS, IAY, Mo Kudia and National security schemes, information to the families on Child Protection and policy of child labour and legal aid and its remedy.
